Each year, the federal government assigns quotas to Australian jurisdictions, based on which the states and territories nominate skilled and business migrants for the

  • Skilled Nominated visa Subclass 190 and 
  • Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa Subclass 491

Based on your situation the Australian govt provides the following immigration programs. If you are: 

  1. An individual not sponsored by anyone

189 Visa 

Or a Points-tested permanent visa for skilled workers who are not sponsored by an Australian employer, family member, or nominated by a state or territory.

  1. An individual with State Sponsorship

190 Visa 

Or The Skilled Nominated Visa; a Points-tested permanent visa for skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian State or an Australian Territory government.

  1. An individual with a Family sponsorship

491 Visa 

Or The Skilled Regional Visa was created to stimulate skilled workers to live and work in designated regional areas of Australia for up to five years

Skilled – Independent (Subclass 189)​

This visa offers the candidate a permanent residency in Australia with their family and falls under the Australian Immigration points-based system. Applicants must furnish that they possess the qualification or the skills of occupation in the Skilled Occupation List (SOL). Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189) applicants are required to obtain a minimum of 65 points on a point assessment.

 

Eligibility:

The applicants have to satisfy the basic requirements to migrate under the skilled sponsored visa and must meet the 65 points to file for a visa.

  • Age: Under 45 years of age at the time of invitation.
    English language: The applicant should prove that he/she meets the English language of competent level by submitting the test results before the application is submitted.
  • Nominated Occupations: The applicant should nominate an occupation on the Medium and Long term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) that matches with his/her skills, qualifications and work experience.
    Skill Assessment: It is mandatory for an applicant to get a positive skill assessment for a nominated occupation before the visa application is submitted.

Skilled – Nominated (Sub Class 190)​

This points-based Permanent Resident visa is for skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian state or territory and is an option to the individuals who cannot meet the Skilled Independent criteria and for those applicants whose occupation is not listed in the Medium and Long term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). The basic requirement of this visa is to get sponsorship from a sponsoring State/ Territory in Australia. Applicants should also meet the points test by scoring 65.

Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Provisional) (Subclass 489)​

The Skilled Regional (Provisional) Subclass 489 visa is a provisional visa that requires holders to live and work in a regional area to obtain permanent residence. To qualify, the candidate must be sponsored by either a relative living in a designated area or a State or Territory Government.

 

Eligibility:

The applicants have to satisfy the basic requirements to migrate under the Skilled Regional State or Relative Sponsored Visa and must secure 65 points to file the Visa.

Age: Under 45 years.

English language: The applicant should prove that he/she meets the English language of competence level by submitting the test results before the application is submitted.

Nominated Occupation: The applicant should nominate an occupation on the Short term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) or Medium and Long term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). If the he/ she wish to live in the designated area, the applicant should apply for relative sponsored Visa.

Skill Assessment: It is mandatory for an applicant to get a positive skill assessment for a nominated occupation before the application is filed.

Maintenance funds: The applicants should show sufficient maintenance funds to obtain sponsorship from state territory if applying for state /territory nominated regional visa.

Health & character requirements: The applicant has to meet all the health and character requirements.

Sponsorship by a Relative living in a Designated Area: The applicant can apply for a Subclass 489 visa if he/she is sponsored by a relative living in a Designated Area. The relative must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand Citizen. The following relatives can sponsor for the Subclass 489 visa:

  • Parents, Grandparents
  • Brothers and Sisters
  • Uncles and Aunts
  • Nephews and Nieces, First Cousins
