Foreign nationals who are travelling to Malta to work need to have a National Long-Stay Visa, or D Visa.

The D visa allows foreign nationals to stay in Malta for more than three months. This is the visa foreign employees will need to live and work in Malta for an extended period of time.

 

In addition to a long-stay visa, foreign employees will need a work permit. In Malta, this permit is known as an employment license. The employment license is usually issued for 1 year.

  • Work Permit Letter issued by the Maltese Authorities and should not be more than 60 days from the date of issue. If the letter is more than 60 days they cannot apply and the employer should request another letter from the Maltese Authorities.
